By Shina Ogunshola

This is a full scale “mark” examination for revision of senior secondary school course and to participate in examination techniques to be effective they should be done under examination conditions i.e. the time for each paper should be observed and neither the solution, textbook as noted should be referred to.

General Advice

Be sure that you read and understand the examination rubric (i.e the instruction) typical rubric is given in each paper note, however, that the examination council may change the rubric if it wishes for any reason.

Always follow given instructions. For example, if a question says use tables you will lose credit if you use a calculator or if a question says ‘ use the value 6, 400km for the radius of the earth ; you may lose credit if you use the value 40,000km for the earth circumference. If a question says calculate then you must not measure, and vice versa.

Work out how much time you can afford to spend on each question; also, time for reading the questions and for checking your answers at the end. This advice is especially important in the multiple choice paper (paper1).

If any question involves drawing, make a rough sketch first, whether it is a graph or a scale drawing.

Check your answer and see if they are sensible in terms of the given question. For example a car costing N22 or a walking speed of 5,600km/h are sure signs that a slip has been made.

Show all your workings in the body of the question that you are answering. Do not be ashamed of your rough working; examiners know what to look for and may be able to give credit marks for such working but only if they see it on the paper.
