United Kingdom-based TeamNigeriaUK has unveiled a banquet of present and future programmes aimed at unearthing, nurturing, developing Nigerian sporting talents as well giving recognition to unsung achievers both home and abroad.

Top on the agenda is the much talked about AbujaShowDown2016, which will see the body’s age-grade teams lock horns with the national U17 and U20 teams as well as the Lagos State U17 side at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch in Abuja between July 29 and August 1, 2016.

In pursuance of its resolve to give young Nigerian talents exposure at youth set ups of various clubs in the UK and other European countries, the outfit, whose Soaring Eaglets engaged Golden Eaglets in a double-legged friendly match before the latter went on to lift the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup trophy in Chile, will organize screening exercises in Owerri and Abuja on July 20th and July 22 respectively.

The non-profit organization plans the maiden edition of the Nigerian version of #ExtraTimeWith in 2017, which will hold every three months across the various states.

According to the CEO of the outfit, David Doherty, the event will be an interactive forum to educate, empower and engage young Nigerian athletes/footballers between ages 14 and 21, who will have the opportunity to be advised and mentored by top role models in the sports industry.

The exercise, which is primarily centred on imbibing on young athletes the need to be well-rounded individuals, will address areas such as managing resources, education, business and sports.

“Our desire is that this will build the confidence of young people whilst also increasing aspiration and self esteem. The platform will be a funfair, featuring noted role models from all walks of life who will help motivate and inspire all who are involved,” said David Doherty.

In furtherance of its drive to reward excellence, TeamNigeriaUK will in 2017 organise its maiden edition of Nigerian Community Achievement Awards. This is in recognition of the efforts of unsung heroic individuals or group of persons from all walks of life at both State and Local Government levels in the country.

The prestigious award set for 4th November, 2017 at the Federal Capital City, Abuja, will be an annual event to inspire and motivate prospective recipients to keep up their good works towards the development of states and communities.

According to Doherty, top Nigerian musicians will be on ground to entertain the guests.
