A 59-year-old landlord and his son have been arrested in Lafia, Nasarawa State, by police for allegedly being in possession of firearms and robbing a tenant.
Mr. Lawal Shehu, the state Commissioner of Police, told newsmen that the landlord’s son, at about 2a.m., yesterday, robbed one of their tenants.
Shehu explained that the suspect broke into the room of the tenant, Mr. Enyeribe Chinma, through the ceiling and robbed him of his cell phone and other valuables at gunpoint.
Shehu alleged that the suspect shot the victim on the head, but that the victim survived the wound.
According to the commissioner, the victim alerted the ‘B’ Division Police Station at about 5.30a.m., leading to the arrest of the suspect.
He said during investigation, a revolver pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, Tecno cell phone and a flash drive were recovered from the suspect.
He said that the suspect confessed to the crime and claimed that the gun belonged to his father.
The commissioner said that the father of the suspect claimed to have acquired the arm during communal crises in 2013.
Shehu said the claim would be investigated to ascertain the source of the arm after which the suspects would be charged to court.
