LAGOS state government has disclosed its determination to complete the rehabilitation and upgrading of New Market/Camp Davies/Ishefun Road (section 1) in 12 months while it targets eight months to complete the rehabilitation and upgrading of Aiyetoro Road (section1).

The contracts for both projects were awarded to Messrs CGC Nig. Ltd in December 2015, while work commenced March 25, 2016. According to a statement from the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the Ishefun Road which is 5.9km in length connects the newly completed Ipaja/Ayobo Road to Ishefun town and Camp Davies Village.

“Before the commencement of the project, residents within these communities have been experiencing untold hardship plying the road due to its bad state while ‘Okada’ was the main mode of transportation within the axis. In order to ensure free flow of traffic, the project was designed to upgrade the New Market/Ishefun Road into10.75km dual carriageway for the section 1 while Camp Davies Road will be a two lane-single carriageway of 460 metres”, the statement said.

The statement further noted that Aiyetoro Road is a border road linking Lagos state with Ogun state, pointing out that it is a one kilometer earth road which for many years had been characterized by gullies and craters thereby impeding vehicular movement.

“The road is being upgraded to a dual carriageway to be implemented in sections. Section 1 entails the complete asphalting of one side of the dual carriageway, while the other carriageway will be completed to sub base level.

“The section 2 will complete the outstanding asphaltic work on outstanding carriageway including the construction of a new bridge. The project are aimed at improving road connectivity thus reducing traffic gridlock and reduction in travel time along the axis. This will improve the living standards of the residents and the socio economic activities in the axis.
