BENIN CITY—THE organised Labour has described Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State as a pacesetter, who should be emulated by other governors in the country on the welfare of workers.

A statement by the Chairmen of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and  Trade Union Congress, TUC, Emmanuel Ademokun and Marshal Ohue respectively, noted: “On behalf of  NLC and TUC Edo State councils, we write to most respectfully express our appreciation to the governor, Mr Oshiomohle for the increase in the minimum wage of the Edo State civil servants from N18,000 to N25,000 effective from May 1,  2016.

“Governor Sir, your pronouncement on May Day has come to stay.  This has further established your love and compassion for the working people; we are extremely honoured by this uncommon gift.

“You have again set the pace for others to follow as no state governor has ever given workers salary increase without agitation, it is even more historical as this increase came at a time when many state governors could not pay their workers’ salaries.”
