Immigration recruits shut down Interior Ministry

By Omeiza Ajayi

ABUJA—Hundreds of Immigration recruits, yesterday, locked down the Ministry of Interior, Abuja, accusing the Federal Government of playing politics with their employment.

About 2,000 Nigerians were in 2015 recruited into the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, in the aftermath of an ill-fated recruitment in 2014.

After undergoing the mandatory paramilitary training, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari ordered their dispersal for unstated reasons.

Although the House of Representatives, months ago, passed a resolution directing the Federal Government to absorb the recruits, the Interior Ministry has not effected the order.

At about 12:42p.m., Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Bassey Akpanyong, along with the Comptroller General of NIS, Muhammad Babandede, spoke with the protesters.
