His corpse was later discovered few kilometres away from where he was abducted, by three children who had gone to pluck cashew.

The children were said to have rushed back to their village to inform the community elders, who alerted the police.

Police sources disclosed that Adamu, a close associate of the alleged gang leader, Okeke, was in possession of the late Colonel’s phone when he was arrested. It was gathered that Adamu led the IRT operatives to Kaduna State SIB where they found Ebele and Kabir.

Ebele was said to have confessed that the gang had no intention of killing the Colonel, but only wanted to snatch his car when he was abducted.

He explained that Inusa struggled with one of the gang members known as Sokoto, when they attempted to drop him off, which led to his being shot.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, did not respond to calls put across to his line at press time.
