ABUJA—The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, yesterday, warned all the mobile network operators in the country to comply by with its directive of dedicating a short code, 2442, on their networks for use by subscribers to opt-in to a database that would enable them register their numbers against unsolicited messages.

Executive Vice Chairman of the commission, Professor Umar Dambatta, issued the warning at the 77th edition of the Telecom Consumer Parliament hosted by NCC in Abuja.

He noted that the directive was part of ongoing efforts by the commission to ensure improved quality of service to consumers in the country.

According to him, NCC had put in place other measures that will ensure that service providers meet the needs of consumers.

Dambatta told the parliament that he had worked tirelessly to put in place strategies and policies that would enable the commission actualise its vision of becoming a responsive, world-class regulator that empowers consumers.

Meanwhile, speakers at the forum used the occasion to task operators to improve on quality of service, customer awareness creation and stop unsolicited SMS.
