PORT HARCOURT—ELDERS in Rivers State have condemned the killings and insecurity in the state.

Former Director General,  State Security Service,  SSS, Chief Albert Horsfall, who spoke  yesterday in Port Harcourt, after a meeting  of Rivers Elders and Leaders Council, RELEC, said that as elders, they were worried over  the security situation in the state.

Horsfall, who is Chairman of the elders council said they resolved to send a mail to the governor, advising that he should evolve programmes to productively engage the minds of youths.

He said that they will defend the state against efforts by some persons to destroy it, adding that they will continue to take steps to promote peace.

“We think we should defend our state to gain back stability. We want peace to reign. People are trying to create an impression of instability in River State. Law and order must prevail,” he said.

Chief Horsfall also enjoined youths to shun violence, stressed that they should commit their energetic age to productive ventures.

“Don’t say you will change when you are old. That time may be too late. If you are robbing people with guns today, know that these things will not help you in your old age,” he added.
