BENIN—A GOVERNORSHIP aspirant of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State, Mr Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, has warned party delegates that there may be no more PDP in the state after the September 10 governorship election unless they set aside sentiments, money politics and pick a candidate suitable to fly the flag of the party.

“Therefore, the party must put its best man forward. Otherwise if we field the wrong candidate, there will be no PDP after September,” he stated.

Iduoriyekemwen who stated this when he addressed party members and leaders from Edo South senatorial district in Benin City, yesterday, urged them not to make the mistake of the past, adding that delegates must choose a candidate based on his character.

“The PDP needs a candidate that can stand tall at all times, a candidate who, if they want to do juju, he also can do juju with them. I am the only candidate that can dominate other candidates, including those of the opposition,” he said.

He said he was more anxious to develop Edo State than any of the other PDP aspirants, explaining that he was the one who mobilised for the creation of Edo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, EDSOPADEC, adding that as Edo Commissioner on the Board of NDDC, he brought many developmental projects to the state.

He said: “You need a candidate that will be the restorer of PDP. I am that person that does not take state funds and concentrate it on personal development. I am more hungry to develop Edo than any of the other PDP aspirants.

“In 2012, five of us ran in the governorship primaries. The others have left the party because they were visitors. If the PDP needs to win the election with N10,000, with me as the candidate, the party will need N1,000 to win.

“I am the only person who can write the history of Edo PDP when I become governor. This is the time to decide who will make the election easier for the PDP to win,” Iduoriyekemwen said.
