WARRI – A middle-aged man suspected to be an armed robber was on Monday, set ablaze by angry mob after an unsuccessful attempt to rob a pregnant woman.

The deceased identified as Emma Blue was burnt to death at the First Marine gate junction in Warri/Sapel road, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta.


The alleged robber was said to have robbed in another area of Warri on Sunday.

The incident caused heavy traffic gridlock on the busy Warri/Sapele as crowd watched pitifully.

When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer, Warri B Division, CSP Anniette Eyoh said that before he mobilised to the scene, the suspected armed robber had been set ablaze, adding that he had to file a report to the commissioner of police regarding the jungle justice meted on the suspect.

Some eye witnesses who spoke with newsmen on condition of anonymity said the deceased was a notorious criminal in the area.

Vanguard recalled that four suspected criminals were set ablaze on April 24, 2016 at various locations in the Warri metropolis by angry mob.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta Command, DSP Celestina Kalu said she was yet to be briefed on the development.
