UNILAG student wins gold medal at National Mathematics Competition, makes university proud

The University of Lagos has once again demonstrated its excellence in quantitative education as its students recorded an outstanding performance at the 8th National Mathematics Competition for University Students (NAMCUS 2016), held at the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), Abuja, from the 3rd to 8th of April, 2016 .

Representing the University of Lagos were Adeyemi Damilola David, Sunday Esebre, Joshua Aizebokhai, and Khadijah Agboola, under the leadership and academic guidance of Dr. Akinfenwa and Dr. Osilagun. The UNILAG contingent delivered an impressive performance in the highly competitive national event, featuring top institutions across Nigeria.

In a remarkable highlight, Adeyemi Damilola David clinched a Gold Medal Award, distinguishing himself among the best mathematical talents in the country.

In addition, he also earned a Certificate of Participation at the competition, reflecting his academic commitment and excellence in problem-solving, abstract reasoning, and advanced mathematical theory.

Speaking about the competition, Damilola described the experience as “a defining academic milestone that broadened my analytical thinking, research interest, and passion for applied mathematical sciences.” The rigorous competition involved challenges in advanced pure and applied mathematics, further sharpening participants’ logical reasoning abilities, strategic thinking, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
