ABUJA—DETERMINED to see an urgent end to the crisis that has polarised it, the Senate, yesterday, inaugurated a reconciliatory committee constituted.

However, as the committee was being inaugurated, there emerged a serious treat to its success, following insistence by senators who have pending issues in courts against the Senate not to withdraw such cases.

Deputy Senate, President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over Wednesday’s plenary had pleaded with senators who had pending cases in court against the Senate to withdraw them in the spirit of reconciliation.

An inside source confided in Vanguard that during a closed session held earlier to discuss the delayed signing of the 2016 budget by President Muhammadu Buhari, the senators, who he could not mention, insisted on going ahead with their suits to their logical conclusion.

They said that the issue of withdrawing their suits as announced by the Senate deputy President, was not part of their discussion, wondering why a committee was set up on it.
