ICT potent weapon to tackle poverty – Dambatta

The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Garba Danbatta, has described ICT as the potent tool to tackle poverty.

The EVC made the declaration during an interactive session, recently with newsmen in Jos.

The NCC boss, said that information communication technology, is the driver of economic growth contributing heavily to the country’s GDP and reduces poverty, adding that every country irrespective of its location and social status will succeed if it gives prominence to ICT.

He said, ICT contributed over N35 billion to the revenue account, representing 10 percent of the country’s GDP and $ 32 billion direct investments which has resulted in the creation of about 2.5 million jobs.

Also speaking at the event, Acting Director General of National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, stated that, ICT is a magic bullet for poverty reduction that without ICT a nation will continue to remain underdeveloped.

Vincent, who was represented by Christopher Okeke, noted that the use of ICT affects every sector of the economy, from agriculture, health, education, civil service, banking among others.
