PORT HARCOURT— RIVERS State Government has offered to provide needed support to security agencies to fish out killers of Mr Samuel Okonta in the last re-run elections in the state.
Governor Nyesom Wike made the promise when he paid a condolence visit to the state Director of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC , Mrs. Ngozi Watarali, at her office on Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt.
The governor said he was deeply pained by the death of the corps member, promising that the government will identify with the family of the late corps member.
He said: “The death of this corps member is unfortunate and condemnable. I urge the Police to thoroughly investigate the crime. The outcome of the investigation should be made public so that those involved are prosecuted. The killing of this corps member must not be swept under the carpet.”
The governor also commiserated with the Department of State Security, DSS over the death of its member recently in Egi, Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Area of the state, saying that the government had taken steps to shore up the security situation in the state.
He further increased the monthly allowance of corps members serving outside Port Harcourt from N10, 000 to N15000. He also increased the state monthly allowance of corps members serving in Port Harcourt from N5,000 to N10,000.
