AS events of the 2016 Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games enter the home stretch today, teams have intensified their efforts at aiming for the top of the medals table.
The swimming pool at the Chevron Recreation Centre Gbagada witnessed top class contests yesterday as swimmers struggled to outdo each other in the various events.
In the men’s backstroke event, Obinna Ozorgwu of ExxonMobil won gold while Aleibiri Basil of NCMB placed second to win the silver medal and Ayemo Shola of Chevron won the bronze.
In the veterans freestyle (men), Jenakumo O. of PTI won the gold medal, while Fredric Bets of Total and Asemota Omoruyi of Shell won silver and bronze respectively.
Ayemo Shola of Chevron won gold in the men’s breaststroke event, leaving behind Ukachukwu A.(NNPC) and Obini Chima of DPR for the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Njideka Mbonu of ExxonMobil won gold in the women’s backstroke event. Osuagwu Inango(Shell) and Onuh Nnenna of NNPC won the silver and bronze. In the women’s freestyle event, Ivan Mramag of NLNG won the gold medal, Aleibiri Basil(NCDMB) won silver and Ebirebenna Tarmison of NNPC took the bronze.
Nwokoma Esther of Shell won gold in women’s breaststroke, Njideka Mbonu of ExxonMobil won gold in women’s freestyle. She beat Inye Samuel of Shell to the second position while the bronze was won by Chioma Akpakama of NNPC.
In squash, Kate Ezeanya of NNPC made good her plan to add the ladies singles gold to her medal haul after she defeated Atinuke Eborka also of NNPC 3/2 in the final decided yesterday at Ikoyi Club 1938.
Chess was also concluded yesterday. Oboh Blessing Ebehireme of NNPC won gold in the ladies category. The silver medal went to Ogwuche Otokini Ada of Chevron and Dibie Winifred of Shell won the bronze.
In the male category, Ogolowo Clifford Chilebo of Chevron gold, Akingbade Oluwagbemiga of Shell won the silver and Paul Andrew Owoicho of NNPC got the bronze.
