Uduaghan: Day Okowa disappointed warmongers

THE story before now was that Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and his predecessor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, were at daggers drawn, presumably because of what transpired between them prior to the nomination of the former as Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate for the April 2015 governorship polls. Since Okowa entered office, various interests have promoted the atmosphere of warfare between them, including that the incumbent governor was dismantling everything associated with his precursor and grueling his lieutenants. There were talks about the governor’s scathing comment on the debt profile he inherited from Uduaghan, purported accusation of profligacy on the Asaba International Airport, Asaba, and all that, but Okowa, penultimate Tuesday, during his first interaction with journalists since he assumed office, May 29, 2015, counteracted the pervasive perception.

We’ll bring changes into governance – Edebiri, Edo PDP guber aspirant

CHIEF SOLOMON EDEBIRI was the revelation during the 2012 governorship election debate organized for candidates. He had contested the election under the platform of the now defunct All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), a party that was not so popular in Edo State. He however came third in the governorship election that was held that year on April 22nd.

Pomp as Oshiomhole tackles Edo flood

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, may have taken the bull by the horn following his apparent determination to combat the age-long flood ravaging a number of communities in metropolitan Benin-City, the capital. Using his government’s Storm Water initiative to tackle the perennial flooding from the Okhoro River, Oshiomhole, at a recent inspection of the project site, described the on-going drainage facility as rock solid to resist flooding of whatever magnitude. According to him, “the width of the drainage is about 26ft wide and about 8ft high. What this means is that no matter the quantity of water that passes through this area, the inhabitants need not fear anymore.

Political Notes

It was remarkable that Governor Ayodele Fayose during his interview with an online newspaper affirmed his continuing loyalty to former President Goodluck Jonathan even if he insisted that the party goofed in presenting Jonathan as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Fayose’s reason was that Jonathan’s insistence on running removed support for the party from supporters mostly in the north who were peeved at the seeming relegation of the north in the polity.

Muritala’s death was hidden from me for two days – Aisha Oyebode, Daughter

I think I was so busy trying to get over my grief. And I was particularly close to my father because I was the eldest child. At that time the Federal Government gave us scholarship but it was not easy. Things are even much more efficient now because in those days every holiday we couldn’t go on vacation like some children. From the time I come home, we will be putting papers for our scholarship together so that we can take them to the Cabinet Office, the papers will now move from desk to desk and we were doing it so that we will not be late for school. And I did it for myself and my younger siblings. So you can imagine what we went through. So honestly I didn’t have time to feel any bitterness or anger.

War against corruption: Rev. Okotie disagrees with Cardinal Okogie

When former President Goodluck Jonathan emerged on the scene, he came across as a power –shy, harmless politician on whose shoulders providence placed the leadership of this great nation at a critical period in our political evolution. His moving story of grass to grace, with the memorable line that he went to school like many Nigerians without shoes, caught the attention of the electorate who gave him the mandate in his first-ever quest to seek elective office in 2011.

Valentine’s Day: Celebrating love without money

A common question has often been asked. Does money matter when it comes to love? This is a one million naira question that would always attract all manner of answers. But as many often would say, love is not enough in a love relationship. We are yet in another season of love and times are hard. Will cash crunch frustrate the funfair that usually accompanies Valentine Day?

How lust for girlfriend lured wanted Dimka to Afikpo

I was a teacher when the coup took place and Dimka and his partners were declared wanted. At that time, the radio kept announcing that whoever finds him should report to the police as some benefits will be given to the person. So, every 15 minutes or thereabout the radio continued to flare the information. Dimka had served as an officer here, (Afikpo) we came back from Biafra and met Dimka as an officer here, so Dimka was popular here. He was not somebody that could hide in Afikpo; he had a lot of friends; unfortunately, when he was declared a fugitive, it was easy for him to be spotted especially in Afikpo.

Anichebe to lead West Brom at Everton

Everton could climb up to seventh in the Premier League if they can make it four wins in a row today against a West Bromwich Albion side in a stale patch of form. And Nigerian international, Victor Anichebe is set to lead the line for West Brom, who are fighting hard to pool out of the relegation and seek an unlikely win at Goodison Park to make that dream come true. The Toffees will start as favourites, especially given West Brom’s need for a penalty shootout to beat Peterborough United in last night’s FA Cup fourth-round replay.

Waiting for the right time

After almost 30 years of a very turbulent and abusive marriage which produced five children; Lydia, still under 50 years, decided that she’d had enough. With all her children now old enough to care for themselves (two already graduated), it was time she concentrated on herself and spend the rest of her years in peace of mind and body. Though she’d always had a good job and could fend for herself and the kids if push came to shove, their welfare and happiness had always been her excuse for clinging on to her unhappy marriage, when family and friends suggests that she saves herself and end the relationship.

Why men should be more aware of their prostate

What can go wrong?: The prostate gland can become inflamed or infected. It’s quite usual for it to grow as a man gets older and this can cause symptoms. But many of these symptoms can be caused by cancer too and it’s important that this more sinister cause of problems is identified and treated early.

Weigh options before you crash your marriage!

ONE of the most traumatic experiences in anyone’s life is discovering you’re in love with someone else whilst you’re already married with children. When Nkem, Franchesca’s husband, discovered his wife was having an affair, he couldn’t believe the evidence that was staring him in the face. Taking courage in both hands, he confronted his wife with the facts at his disposal. “I had no option but to confess to the affair,” Fran had said sadly.

My dad shouts at me all the time

I think I’m beginning to hate my father. He is too rude to me all time. He shouts at me and doesn’t seem to regard me at all. I can’t find happiness when he is around me . I have two brothers: one bigger and one smaller. Whenever my bigger or smaller brother does something, he always turns their fault on me. He doesn’t let me play games or watch TV. My brothers have mp3s, TV games but I have nothing . Are you sure I’m his child. I’m 19.
