Over 250 Match Commissioners jostle for 38 league matches

Action recorded during a Nigerian league match

BY JUDE OPARA,
ABUJA – NO fewer than 250 match commissioners yesterday in Abuja attended the yearly mandatory seminar ahead of the forthcoming 2015/16 Nigerian Premier League season scheduled to kick off this weekend across the country.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) usually selects match commis-sioners for the 38 league matches from the list, a situation that makes it extremely difficult for all of them to be patronized in a year.

Declaring the seminar open, president of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick who was represented by the chairman of chairmen of the federation, Ibrahim Gusau reminded the match commissioners drawn from all parts of the country that they have a crucial role to play to ensure that the sanctity of the Nigerian league was restored.

He further charged them to work hard to improve on the marginal success recorded in the league last season adding that the strength of the league could easily be judged by the performance of the nation’s clubs campaigning in continental champion-ships.

Meanwhile, the Chief Operating Officer of the League Management Company (LMC), Mallam Salihu Abubakar has reiterated that the 2015/16 league season will kick off across the country as earlier scheduled.
