FOLLOWING the suspension of councillors of Ughelli South Local Government Area Legislative Arm, Delta State, due to alleged gross misconduct, 10 of the 20 Councillors have petitioned the state House of Assembly over the alleged illegal and malicious suspension of five of their members by the chairman of the council.
In a letter by Nelson Koto, Maxwell Urhogu, Emmanuel Okpatako and seven others, addressed to the Speaker, Mr Monday Igbuya and member representing Ughelli South Constituency, Reuben Izeze, they stated that since the council Chairman’s assumption of office on October 27, 2014, he had allegedly refused to render monthly statements of income and expenditure, including annual reports, to members of the legislative Arm, which contravenes section 23 (C) of the Delta State Local Government Law, 2013.
