Nasarawa United flag off their CAF Confederation Cup campaign tomorrow against Generation Foot of Senegal at the National Stadium, Abuja. It is a first round, first leg match, with the winner over two legs proceeding to the second round, to confront Club Sportif Constantinois of Algeria. Generation Foot, a lower division side in Senegal are targeting an unlikely upset against a Nasarawa United side, who are hoping to make the most of their campaign in CAF’s lesser-rated club competition.
While Generation Foot are playing on the continent for the first time, Nasarawa United played in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2007 after crashing out of the more lucrative CAF Champions League.
Nasarawa Coach Kabiru Suleiman Dogo will be able to call on some of the most impressive players in Nigeria’s domestic football, with Esosa Igbinoba, who was among the top scorers of the penultimate season available for the match.
Dogo will be counting on Igbinoba to rain down the goals on Generation Foot and make the second leg encounter a routine test. Also in pole positions to start are CHAN Eagles defender Samson Gbadebo, Abdulrahaman Bashir, Philip Azango, CHAN Eagles midfielder Yaro Bature, Thomas Zenke and Philip Auta.
