3 arrested for killing 9 persons in Ogun

ABEOKUTA—Three members of a gang of armed robbers, alleged to have killed no fewer than nine persons in the Ijoko area of Sango Ota, Ogun State, have been arrested by police in the state.

Parading the suspects and nine others yesterday at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta for various crimes ranging from cultism, car-snatching to armed robbery, the state Police Commissioner, Abdulmajid Ali, said the gang had been terrorising the people of Ijoko area for seven years.

According to the police commissioner, Ali, Rasak Ogundairo, 25; Idowu Tijani, 45 and Raimi Ogunkunle, 25 who belonged to the same robbery gang and cult group, have confessed to committing the crimes.

The commissioner further explained that a team of Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the state stormed their hideout and arrested Ogundairo with one double-barrelled cut-to-size pistol and one single-barrelled pistol with 14 live cartridges and two expended cartridges.

According to Ali, the arrest of the suspect, who confessed to have killed five persons in Ijoko area, led to the arrest of the other two.

“The leader of the gang, Idowu Tijani, confessed to have killed four people who were in Ijoko area of Otta,” the police boss added.
