Osogbo—Members of the host community to Fountain University in Osogbo have protested attacks on them by people suspected to be thugs who were allegedly hired by the university management over land tussle.
The land in dispute was said to have been allocated to the institution by the state government but authorities of the university had raised alarm over encroachment on the campus by some indigenes of Osogbo.
But some families making claim to some parcels of the land besieged the state House of Assembly in protest on Monday as they asked the legislative arm to save them from incessant attacks by the hoodlums.
The protesting community led by the families of Olufon, Alawaye, and Alaajo displayed various placards bearing some inscriptions while chanting solidarity songs to drive home their demands.
According to the spokesperson of the protesters, Mr. Semiu Alajo, the case on the land tussle is presently in court wondering why the management would hire some thugs to beat and harrass them on the land.
Alajo said it was an abuse of court process for management of Fountain University to embark on the construction of the school fence alleging that the management hired the thugs to attack residents of the area.
