‘Science & tech, key to solving Nigeria’s economic woes’

By Emmanuel Elebeke

WITH the continued decline in the fortunes of the nation’s economy, following the drop in the price of oil in the   international market, stakeholders in the Science and Technology sub sector have asked the Federal Government to prioritise the sector  as the new hope of the economy.

Former Ministers of science and tech, made the call on  President Muhammadu Buhari last week, when they met with the  new Minister in Abuja. They urged the President to show more interest in the science and  technology sector by increasing the yearly budgetary allocations  to meet the demands of the industry and unleash economic restoration of the country.

For them, unless the President makes science and technology the  cornerstone for his development agenda, the country may be in wa way longer to get out of the woods. The former Ministers maintained that if science and technology is properly  explored, it would become an inexhaustible source of revenue generation than oil in the nearest future.

According to them, the sector could also engender unprecedented  development and wealth creation for the teeming youths in the country. They enjoined the new minister to use his wealth of experience to change the fortune of the ministry.
