PORT HARCOURT— Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has renamed Liberation Stadium and the Old Aba Road after General Yakubu Gowon.

In a statement, Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the governor on Electronic Media, said the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, “Is now to be known as Yakubu Gowon Stadium. The Old Aba Road is also to be known as Yakubu Gowon Road.”

Governor Wike had on Saturday promised to immortalise General Gowon (retd) for creating Rivers State  when he was the Head of State in 1967.
