House of Reps moves to stop UNN from charging N75, 000 levy

The House of Representatives has asked its Committees on Education (Basic and Tertiary) to intervene in the compulsory N75, 000 laptop fee charged students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The house unanimously took the decision following a motion under matters of urgent public importance sponsored by Rep. Bashir Babale (APC-Kano).

Court remands man for trafficking in hemp

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded a 29-year-old man, Nurudeen Egeberongbe, for allegedly dealing in drugs. Egeberongbe is facing a two-count charge of drug dealing. Justice Mohammed Yunusa ordered the remand of the accused after the prosecution and defence counsel had argued for and against the bail applications of the accused.

Legal practitioner docked over alleged visa scam

A 39-year-old legal practitioner, Odunayo Oladayo, who allegedly defrauded a widow of N500,000 was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The accused who resides at No.15, Odunsi St. Meiran, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, false pretence and stealing.

Erdogan says Turkey has proof of Russian involvement in IS oil trade

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday said Turkey had proof Russia was involved in illegal oil trade with the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria, countering “immoral” Russian allegations that his own family was importing oil from the jihadists. “We have the proof in our hands. We will reveal it to the world,” Erdogan said in a televised address in Ankara.

Putin swears to make Turkey regret plane downing

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday vowed Turkey’s leadership would be made to regret the downing of one of Russia’s warplanes as Moscow announced a halt to talks on a major gas pipeline project.
