Akure—TWO persons, Mustapha Mohammed, 22 and Sarafina Ismaila, 23 have been sentenced to three months imprisonment each by an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court, Ondo State for stealing a black female goat.

They were arraigned by the police, weekend on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Police prosecutor, Sunday Adejuwon told the court that the two accused persons conspired to steal the said goat.

Adejuwon said that the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37 Vol .1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The prosecution added that the accused persons did unlawfully take a black goat which they could not give satisfactory explanation for and this was also contrary to and punishable under section 430 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 ,Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the two count charges when the charge sheet was read to them.

The police prosecutor tendered the female goat as an exhibit before the court.

The counsel to the accused persons pleaded on their behalf that the court should temper justice with mercy.

However, the presiding magistrate, Sunday Adedapo sentenced the accused persons to three months imprisonment with hard labour.
