ABUJA – AHEAD of the December 5, 2015 governorship election in Bayelsa State, Coordinator, Bayelsa Youth Leaders Forum, BYLF, Hon Ben Bara Ogidi, has explained why Bayelsans want Governor Seriake Dickson for a second term.
Ogidi in a statement said that the level of development in the state under Dickson has restored hope to the people.
He also said based on the assessment carried out by BYLF and other independent socio-political organisations rate the performance of the governor high.
He said: “Since Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, also known as ‘country-man governor’ was elected by the great people of Bayelsa State, he has not disappointed the people.
“The dogged and determined ‘country-man governor’ has not rested on his restoration mission as he has set in motion the engine of rapid development of all sectors of the state’s economy.
“We asked majority of Bayelsans about the governor’s performance and they expressed their heartfelt appreciation and acknowledgement of the developmental strides he has achieved in various sectors and said they want him back, particularly for the peace they are enjoying and exercising of their fundamental human rights.
“We in Bayelsa Youth Leaders Forum, BYLF, also painstakingly carried out our assessment of the projects, programmes and policies of the governor, and we have seen real performance…
“Our assessment was done in the educational sector and we discovered that the ‘country-man governor’ and his team have been able to massively provide infrastructure and human development, which has brought professionalism and productivity in the sector and that is also seen in the pupils and students performance.
“In the area of road infrastructure, the Dickson-led administration has made tremendous impact.
“We did our assessment of these massive infrastructures in the road sub-sector a we discovered that the three senatorial districts have been linked by road to Yenagoa and one another, which are being completed under the space of four years under Dickson’s administration, and now the movement of persons, goods and investors’ activities has been greatly enhanced.
“We also beamed our searchlight on the health sector , and we saw that Bayelsans have been provided with quality health care services and facilities resulting in reduction in maternal and infant mortality.
“We further looked at the agricultural sector as a major employer of labour as many young people are now into agriculture.
“He (Dickson) has established the Izonebe Microfinance Bank to help farmers, small and medium scale enterprises to access loan to grow and expand their businesses.
“We can go on and on about the ‘country-man governor’s performance and achievement which the opposition cannot help but agree.”
Ogidi also asked eligible voters in the state to get their Permanent Voter Card, PVC ready so as to come out to vote on election day.
