Ahead of the semi  finals of the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup between Nigeria and Mexico Thursday night, the Nigeria Football  Federation (NFF) says it is anxious to present the trophy to President Muhammadu Buhari.

General Secretary of the NFF, Dr. Mohammade Sanusi told Sports Vanguard that the federation was looking forward to a possible repeat of history when in 1985 Nigeria won the first edition of the championship in China under the regime of President Buhari.

Sanusi while reacting on the impressive run of the Coach Emmanuel Amuneke led Golden Eaglets, said even as the NFF did not give any special target to the team it is however hoping that they will successfully defend the trophy they won last week.

“What we told the boys is to respect and not to fear their opponents . I am not a soothsayer but I knew we were going to defeat Brazil because we played and defeated them at the Suwon invitational tournament in South Korea.

Also we beat Argentina who almost play like Brazil in a friendly match. “History is about to repeat itself when in 1985 General Buhari then as a military Head of State received the U-17 trophy.

Again, it will happen that as a civilian president he will receive it because even as we know that Mexico will not be easy. The Golden Eaglets will be equal to the task.”
