ASABA—FOLLOWING Monday’s dissolution of the last Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, DSBIR, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa yesterday forwarded names of five nominees for appointment as chairman, secretary and members for the reconstitution of the board to the State House of Assembly.
The letter conveying the names of the nominees was read at plenary by the Speaker of the House, Monday Igbuya, during its sitting.
Okowa in the letter, said the nomination was in exercise of the power conferred on him by the State Board of Internal Revenue Consolidated Law 2009 as amended.
The nominees include Sir Monday Onyeme, Chairman, Mr Mike Edegware, Secretary, Mr Goddey Iwebuke, Solomon Ighrakpata and Mr Barry Gbe as members.
The governor said he would highly appreciate it if early action was taken on the nominees to enable him effect the appointments as required by law.
Meanwhile, the speaker has directed the nominees to submit 25 copies of their curriculum vitae to reach the Clerk of the House on or before Monday, September 28 and appear for screening on September 29, 2015.
Meanwhile, a cross section of Deltans yesterday lauded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s foresight appointing more commissioners and special advisers as cabinet members, saying it would strengthen peace and unity among the people of the state.
Most of the people, who spoke to Vanguard in Warri and Effurun, particularly praised the appointment of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chairman in Uvwie local government area, Kelly Otuedon, as Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters.
According to them, with Otuedon on board as Senior Special Adviser on Security, peace was guaranteed across the state, especially in the troubled Uvwie Local Government Council, and the riverine areas.
John Igho, who spoke in Warri, noted that the governor had started very well, stressing that Deltans always had confidence in the ability of the governor, even when he was commissioner and later Secretary to State Government.
“We believe sincerely in the governor’s prowess to move Delta State to the next level. We are solidly behind him and he (Okowa) has nothing to fear,” remarked Igho.
They also commended Governor Okowa for spreading appointments to all the 25 local governments of the state, stressing that this effort would further enhance even development in the state.
“We want to advise all the people of the state to rally round the governor in his bid to develop the state. We know that nobody or ethnic group will be marginalised in spreading the dividends of democracy,” Chief Igho further remarked.
He however, advised the appointees to be hard working and loyal to the governor, who he said “is ever ready to touch the lives of the people, irrespective of tribe and political differences.”
