Succour has come the way of the Agege residents in Lagos as Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa is set to build a resource centre in the community with the focus of training and empowering youth and women so as to live a better life in the state.

He said, construction of the centre will commerce in earnest as the piece of land that will house the centre has been acquired.

The speaker who gave out 200 free GCE forms in his constituency was optimistic that the centre will have all the necessary modern information and communication technology ICT, equipment and vocational training machines of different types required for smooth running of the centre.

He explained that the centre will be an avenue to train and empower youths and women which will not only be in Agege but the entire state.

According to him, the aim of the centre is to make youths and women self dependent. “It aims at teaching people how to fish rather than giving them fish to eat. By training and empowering youths and women, we are not only making them independent but also making them employers of labour,” he said.

On the free GCE forms distribution programme, Obasa stated that its has been one of his educational development programmes aimed at assisting indigent students in realising their education ambition.

“We have been doing this since 2003 and this is the 12th edition. Annually the number of beneficiaries keeps increasing. Last year, we gave out 100 forms, this year, we are giving out 200 forms and I want to assure you that the number will increase next year,” he assured.

He then urged the beneficiaries to ensure that they study hard in order to pass the examination noting that, it is only when students excel in their education that those gift items are appreciated.
