Gov Ibikunle Amosun
By Daud Olatunji
ATER about four months of swearing in for his second term, Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has not announced the names of his commissioners. Unlike during his first term when he announced some members of his kitchen cabinet a few days after he was sworn in, he has not made any appointment.
Findings have shown that Amosun may have been waiting for President Muhammadu Buhari to announce his ministers before he picks his commissioners. It was gathered that the governor had sent some names to the Presidency for ministerial appointment while some have been penned down for state appointments.
Further findings showed that the governor decided to wait for the choice of the President as ministers so as to know who to compensate with state posts.
So far, the appointment made by the governor was the Secretary to the State Government. And he has been running his government with his Deputy, Yetunde Onanuga, his SSG, Taiwo Adeoluwa and senior civil servants such as the Head of Service, Modupe Adekunle and permanent secretaries.
However, many leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have become agitated over the delay and have resolved to sending emissaries to the governor to consider them in the coming state appointments.
As the appointments are being awaited, there are some names that people believe would be in the new cabinet. They are former commissioners for Works, Finance, Budget and Planning, Lekan Adegbite, Kemi Adeosun and Oluwande Muoyo respectively. They are Amosun’s personal friends and colleagues who had successfully wormed themselves into the heart of the governor during his first term.
It is believed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo might be asked to present some candidates as compensation following his support for the governor during his second term bid .
Former Chairman of Abeokuta South, Prince Yanju Lipede might also be asked by the governor to present some names for appointments. Checks by Saturday Vanguard revealed that Lipede had played a critical role in the emergence of Amosun during the last election.
The former chairman was reported to have collapsed his political structure for the APC during the governorship election despite being a chieftain of the PDP in the state.
In fact, he was a PDP governorship aspirant during the last election, but decided to ditch his party for the emergence of Amosun after he was not picked by the PDP. Others who may shape Amosun’s cabinet include some state assembly aspirants and candidates, who were either asked to withdraw or defeated at the elections.
The Senatorial candidate in Ogun East, Dapo Abiodun, who lost to the PDP Candidate, Buruji Kashamu and the Director of Amosun’s campaign, Chief Bode Mustapha as well as some members of Labour Party are also personalities that may be considered for in the coming cabinet .
