You just couldn’t have imagined it! Nigerians worldwide celebrated the World Jollof Rice day last week. The celebration which was much on twitter via the Hash tag #WorldJollofRiceDay, has been trending since August 22 till now.

Tweets were buzzing from citizens to corporations about Nigeria’s popular traditional dishes.   Nigerians shared different funny experiences and also where to find the best type of Jollof Rice via twitter.

Jollof rice origin is traced to the Wolof people of the modern day Senegal and the Gambia.   It is a meal that is easy to cook and very affordable.

The common ingredient for jollof rice includes rice, tomatoes, tomatoes paste, and onions, salt and hot red pepper. Apart from that, any kind of meat, vegetable or spice can be added.

According to some Nigerians, jollof rice is a meal that is always available at any occasion especially at weddings. It is known as the life of the party, and a wedding isn’t complete without jollof rice.

Different corporations like Airtel and Etisalat, also created time to join the celebration of the #WorldJollofRice Day because of the importance of the meal to Nigerians.
