Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, Ogun State chapter, yesterday, begged the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to reverse his decision over the sacking of five officials in the Ministry of Education and an examiner Adegbenro Emmanuel .
The State chairman of the union, comrade Akeem Lasisi, while speaking with newsmen over the issue said, the union would only beg the State government to reverse the decision.
The governor had allegedly sacked six officials of the Ministry of education including an acting Permanent Secretary Mrs Folashade Oresegun and an examiner over an ‘offensive’ Senior School English language summary passage.
The affected workers were officials of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology which included two directors on Grade Level 17, Mrs. Folashade Oresegun (Director, Education Support Services) and Deacon Rotimi Ganiyu Odunsi (Director, Curriculum Development and Evaluation).
Others are Mr. Oluwole Majekodunmi (Deputy Director, Curriculum Development and Evaluation on Grade Level 16), Mr. E.O Asegbe (Desk Officer) Grade Level 10; Damilola Taylor (Proof Reader) on Grade Level 8 and a secondary school teacher, Mr. Joel Adegbenro, who set the English Language question.
According to Lasisi, already, a decision has been taken, our stand is that, our governor is a listening governor and there is no decision that cannot be reversed. We are seeking clemency from his excellency to reverse the decision of the state government.
“There is no way as a worker that you would not go against your government either because of lack of experience or otherwise. When something like this should happen, the best thing to do is to beg for clemency on the part of the labour union to redeem the image of the workers in the state.
” It would not be in the good interest of someone that has practised for over twenty years to be sacked just like that, we have the believe that our governor is a listening governor and in few days time, there’s going to be a positive step from the government.
Meanwhile, the examiner has declined to make comments over his ordeal.
Adegbenro, who was at the ASUSS secretariat in Abeokuta, avoided the newsmen who had besieged the secretariat to get his views.
