Indications emerged yesterday that the Lagos State Ministry of Justice may have taken over the case of the reported rape of a 30-year-old woman in Lagos by four members of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC.
A source close to the victim told Vanguard that the case had been reported to the state Ministry of Justice, following suspected moves by the rapists to suppress the case.
The source also disclosed that the traumatised victim was still receiving treatments at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH.
According to the source, the lady is currently in serious pains and cannot speak to newsmen.
Meanwhile, efforts made by Vanguard to speak with the victim and the hospital authorities failed as it was gathered that her case was being handled by a non-governmental organisation, NGO, with office in the hospital premises.
A hospital source told Vanguard: “We cannot tell you anything about that now. The case is being handled by an NGO and they operate in secrecy because of its nature.
“We will advise you to get in touch with the management of the NGO, who should be in a position to authorise us to give you the information you need.”
The case
It would be recalled that a 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped last week by four members of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, at Alapere area of Ketu in Lagos.
While sources close to the victim said she was gang-raped by four OPC members, police denied receiving such report at Alapere Division.
It was also gathered that the victim was beaten and raped by the four men inside her makeshift shop at Mile 12 market.
According to the sources, after raping her, the suspects threatened to unleash more harm on her should she attempt to report the incident to anybody.
It was gathered that the victim was rushed to a hospital where she narrated her experience to workers.
At press time yesterday, police authorities were yet to confirm the incident.
