Insecurity: DELSUTH doctors commence indefinite strike

By Perez Brisibe

OGHARA—MEDICAL activities at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state, have been crippled as doctors under the aegis of Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, began an indefinite industrial action over the poor state of insecurity within and around the hospital environment.

The association in a statement, yesterday by its president, Dr. Okocha Innocent, hinted that in less than a year, four medical doctors have been kidnapped with their family members made to borrow money for ransom to secure their release.

Accusing the management of DELSUTH of delaying implementation of Senior Registrars 1 (SR 1) salary and arrears after qualifying and functioning in same capacity for more than three years, the doctors stated that having had series of futile meetings with the management of the hospital, they had no other option than to embark on the strike for the resolution of the impasse between it and the management of the hospital.

Other demands of the doctors include; two years arrears and non-refund for updates, outstation postings and examination sponsorship, non-implementation of the readjusted relativity in Consolidated Medical Salary Scale, CONMESS, non- payment of some junior resident doctors salaries, non-accreditation of the department of postgraduate medical colleges, among others.
