Former military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, retd yesterday asked Nigerians to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari, members of the National Assembly and State governors for direction on how best to pilot the affairs of the nation. Gowon who led members of Nigeria Praise to pay a courtesy visit to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State at the State House, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, said that the country especially the leaders needs prayer to deliver the dividend of democracy which they promised during the last election.
He stressed that it is only GOD that can help any nation solve its challenges, saying “we all should pray often for this country. In as much as we pray sincerely and not for selfish reasons, I know that GOD will answer our prayers.
“If not for prayer, the 2015 election would not have ended the way it went. Prior to the election, everyone was expecting afraid. But with prayer, the outcome of the election brought relief to the nation. This is an indication that GOD answers our prayer in Nigeria,” he added.
The former head of state and the convener of Nigeria Praise said that a concert would be held on August 16th, 2015 in Lagos to pray for the nation, saying “after the prayer, miraculous things would happen in the country because the country has been receiving GOD’s miracle over the years and 2015 will not be exempted.”
Responding, Ambode said “I want to welcome you because what you stand for is what you have continued to preach as young as you were before and even at the age of 81, you are still preaching the same thing you have been preaching 50 years ago.
“We are looking for a peaceful Nigeria and then a prosperous Nigeria and that is what all of us stands for and we as a government in Lagos state, we are committed to that spiritual upliftment and the development of Nigeria as a whole,”he added.
