BENIN CITY—A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State, Chief Samson Esemuede, has said that most leaders of the party across the three senatorial districts of the state were determined to overhaul the party ahead of the coming congresses of the party scheduled for September, so as to win the 2016 governorship election.
He said it was as a result of that determination that they now have a group, Edo New Dawn, which according to him is geared toward ensuring that credible persons were voted into offices both in the state level and the 18 local government areas as chairmen of the party, adding that the
“Idea is to stop imposition, dictatorship which is what is being experienced with the current leadership of the party in the state.”
The group led by former Chief Whip of the senate, Senator Rowland Owie, had called for the restructuring of the party, noting that unless the Chief Orbih led state executive and other excos at the council levels were dissolved, it would be difficult for the party to win in the 2016 governorship election.
Esemuede who is the Publicity Secretary of the Edo New Dawn, pointed out that the group was not a faction of the PDP but a pressure group that intends to put the party into winning ways, adding that the era where one individual decides the faith of the party in the state was over.
