ASABA—The nominees for appointment into the Governing Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, forwarded to the state House of Assembly by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa have been confirmed by the state legislature.
The confirmation followed the screening of the nominees at yesterday’s plenary of the House presided over by the Speaker, Mr Monday Igbuya.
Okowa had in the letter on Tuesday, said his action was in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 7 (1a) of the law establishing DESOPADEC.
Those screened and confirmed include; Mr Godwin Ebosa, Chairman, Chief William Makinde, Managing Director, Chief Askia Ogieh, Mr Phillip Gbasin, Mr Ocho Chris Ocho and Engr Oritsetimeyin Victor-Wood as Executive Directors.
Others are; Chief Amos Itiwhe, Chief Pius Ovbije, Jonathan Amitaye, Ovie Oghoore, Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, Nnamdi Ezechi, Mr Fidelis Oputa and Chief Favour Izoukumor, who were also screened and confirmed as representatives of oil producing areas in the state.
The governor had in the letter said he will appreciate if early action was taken to place the nominees before the legislators for consideration and confirmation to enable him effect the appointments as required by law.
Meanwhile, major stakeholders in the health sector have lauded Governor Okowa for his initiative in introducing the State Contributory Health Commission bill currently being considered by the state Assembly.
In another development, Secretary General of Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, EGCDF, Mr. Jude Ukormi has congratulated Pastor Philip Gbasin on his appointment as Executive Director in DESOPADEC.
Ukori, in a statement also commended Governor Okowa for appointing Favour Zoukumor as a Commissioner in the commission.
The Egbema leader also charged all his supporters and people of Egbema Kingdom to support Gbasin to enable him deliver to the state and indeed Ijaw nation.
“I sincerely congratulate my brother, Pastor Gbasin and urge every son and daughter of Egbema, especially my supporters to give him all the needed support to serve effectively.”
