UGHELLI– Spokesman for the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Eric Omare, has described agitations by Niger Delta activist, Chief Rita Lori-Ogbebor over the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, DESOPADEC, as misplaced.
Omare who addressed newsmen, yesterday, in Ughelli, Delta State on the nominees for the DESOPADEC board sent to the state House of Assembly, said that there was no connection with Chief Ogbebor’s agitation and the DESOPADEC Law as amended.
According to Omare, who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Community Development, “The amendment only affects the DESOPADEC structure and does not affect the financial percentage accruable to the commission.”
Commending the governor for the nomination of Chief Favour Izoukumor as representative of the Ijaw ethnicity, Omare, said that Chief Izoukumor’s integrity and quest for good governance would come to bear in the management of the commission.
He also tasked the nominees to leave up to expectation, adding that Deltans were looking forward to a renewed DESOPADEC under their leadership for the development of the oil bearing communities in the state.
