Ahmadiyya elders forum tasks leaders on good governance

Members of the Majlis Ansarullah  of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, has urged governments at all levels to imbibe the true elements of good governance in all facets of public administration, adding that they should fulfill all the promises made during the electioneering campaigns as failure to do that would not enthrone good governance.

The Elders Forum of the world-wide organisation made this known as part of its communique issued at the end of its 40th Annual National Ijtema(Convention) held in Ikorodu, Lagos State last weekend.

The programme themed: “Good Governance And Nation Building’ attracted delegates from various parts of the country.

The congregation praised Allah for the peaceful transfer of power from the ruling party to another party and urged all politicians to maintain the tradition in order to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.

Nigeria’s democracy

It urged the Federal Government in particular, State and Local Governments in general to imbibe the true elements of good governance in all dealings and public administration; and also ensure that all the promises made during the electioneering campaigns are well fulfilled as failure to do that is the beginning of bad governance.

It identified corruption as a major draw-back in our march towards development and therefore called for a robust attack on corruption at all the facets of corporate and public administration.

It called on religious leaders to desist from hate-sermons and to, instead, preach harmonious co-existence among all practitioners of religion to check the misapplication of religious teachings by misguided followers.

It implored the government to exploit and develop other revenue-earning sources like agriculture, instead of the overwhelming dependency on crude oil.

Violent crimes

The convention called on the government to strengthen the security agencies to stem the growing rate of armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

In the same vein, the convention appreciates the efforts of the Federal Government and the progress made so far to dislodge the Boko Haram group from the North East part of the country, and that continued supports should be given to our Armed Forces to ensure total uprooting of the Boko Haram Sect in our country.

As a support/contribution of the people of this country, the convention calls on all adherents of all religions in the country to pray fervently to God, as was done in the last general elections, that God may put a stop to the insurgency.

It prayed that Allah may guide our political leaders to steer the ship of our nation’s development to greater heights.

The delegates however expressed gratitude to Allah and commended government for curtailing the Ebola virus which prevented the holding of the convention last year, just as it urged health workers not to be complacent as the virus has resurfaced in countries where it was previously contained.
