UNIOSUN: Sacked workers ask to be re-instated

By Gbenga Olarinoye

Three principal officers whose appointments at the Osun State University, UNIOSUN, were recently terminated by the state government have faulted the action and are asking to be re-instated, saying they were unduly treated.

The affected staff are Professors Siyan Oyefeso, Wasiu Gbolagade and Alhaji Fatai Adebayo Lasisi, the varsity Bursar. They were among the officers of the varsity including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof, A B Okesina, who received various sanctions for their alleged roles in the crises that rocked the varsity in recent times.

The state government had, in a white paper on the report of the visitation panel into the crises in the varsity, handed down various sanctions including outright dismissal of the services of some staff of the institution, which the affected staff have faulted, saying it failed all normal norms and asked the state government to take another look at their sanctions.

Specifically, they argued that the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, may not be privy to the full content of the various recommendations contained in the report of the panel because of the schedule of his works, alleging that there was a fifth columnist behind the government white paper who was out for a purpose.

Threatening  to take legal action to seek redress if the state government refuses to take another look at their dismissal, the affected staff said “if Governor Aregbesola critically goes through the recommendations of the panel and the government white paper on it, he would discover that certain elements within his executive are out on a game plan to achieve certain purpose for their personal interest.”
