Ibadan — A three-man Oyo State National and State Assemblies election petition tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by the immediate past Majority Leader in the House of Representatives, Mrs Mulikat Akande-Adeola.
Akande-Adeola, who represented Ogbomoso North/South and Oriire in the 7th National Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party had challenged the election of her Labour Party (LP) counterpart in the March 28 election, Mr. Ebenezer Segun Ogunwuyi.
She prayed the Justice James Abundaga-led tribunal judge, to nullify Ogunwuyi’s election on the ground that he (Ogunwuyi) did not validly resign his membership from his former party, the PDP before joining the LP.
Mulikat was represented by her counsel, Yunus Ustaz Usman, (SAN) while Ogunwuyi and Labour Party was represented by Mr. Oluwasina Ogungbade of Afe Babalola’s chamber.
In its unanimous decision, Justice Abundaga said time was of essence and as judges they were bound to interpret what the law is and not the way it should be.
Reacting, Akande-Adeola said she would appeal the judgment.
