Bayelsa APC crisis deepens

By Samuel Oyadongha

Yenagoa—The crisis of confidence rocking All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa State, yesterday, took a new twist as aggrieved leaders of the party announced the dissolution of the Chief Tiwe Orunimighe-led State Executive Committee, SEC, over alleged anti-party activities and diversion of presidential campaign funds donated by some state governors to delegates from the state.

The aggrieved APC leaders, said though the dissolution has not received the nod of the national leadership of the party, the action was to rescue the party from the clutches of the few led by the former governor, Chief Timipre Sylva and ensure victory for the party in the coming governorship election in the state.

The APC members, who grouped themselves under the legacy parties, are made up of members of the New PDP, the Congress of Progressive Change, CPC, the All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP.

In a statement read in Yenagoa, Prince Timidi announced the dissolution of the Chief Orunimighe executive and the setting up of a new nine-man State Executive Committee led by Chief Perekeme Kpodo.

He said that the action of the concerned party members was not to create a faction but to restore sanity and internal democracy to the party.
