ASUU, NASU rivalry worsens at UI

IBADAN – COLD war between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) University of Ibadan Chapter and the Non-Academic Staff of the University worsened yesterday as the former complained that they were chased out of lecture rooms by the striking members of NASU.

Three non-academic staff unions of the institution had protested earlier in the day over the failure of the management in the institution to pay them their earned allowances at the end of last month as agreed.

The academic union and the non academic unions have been at daggers’ drawn over the insistence of the non academic to be treated equally as the academic staff in connection with allowances and other largesse from the government.

ASUU, which is not in support of the strike embarked upon by its non academic counterpart has called on the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Isaac Adewole to provide security for them while discharging their academic duties.

The academic union made this known in a memo sent to the Vice Chancellor signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Professor Segun Ajiboye and Dr Deji Omole respectively.

While condemning chasing out of its members, ASUU, through its National Treasurer, Dr Ademola Aremu lamented that the harassment had brought hardship to its members.
