The Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, Headquarters, yesterday, formally pulled out its Generals, who retired from the Army between 2010 and now.   The officers pulled out in the memorable ceremony organised and hosted in their honour by the Corp Commander, Major General RO Yusuf, included Major General Mahmood Abdullahi Yerima, who retired from active service on May 29 2011 as Chief of Training and Operations Defence Headquarters; Major General Abiodun Kamaldeen Amao, who retired from service on December 17 2012 as Chief of Defence Research and Development and Major General Boniface Chimezie Azurunwa who retired on December 31, 2011.

Others included immediate past Commander, Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, Major General Adekunle Abdullahi Martins, who had earlier served as Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics before he became the corp commander from where he retired on January 9, 2015; Major General Christian Onuoha Ugwu (retired 2013); Major General Bode Thomas Oginni (retired December  10, 2013); Major General Mashudy Olafimihan Adekanye (March 31 2015); Brigadier General G. Kachallah (December 31 2011); Brigadier General Godfrey Ude Nwafor (September 30, 2010) and Brigadier General Gabriel Olalere Oladipo, who retired from the Army in 2012 as Director of Ammunition Headquarters Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps.

Speaking on behalf of the 11 retired generals, Major General MA Yerima, said the Major-General RO Yusuf should be given a thumb up for organizing the ceremony, which according to him is a morale booster for the retired senior officers that they were not neglected and uncelebrated after serving their fatherland for 35 years.

Immediate past Commandant, Nigerian Army Ordnance School, Major-General Mashudy Olafimihan Adekanye, expressed confidence that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration would overcome the challenges of Boko Haram insurgency, urging the officers “left behind” to rise to the challenges posed by the insurgents in cooperation with the new Chief of Army Staff, Major-General TY Buratai.

His words: “I want to believe that those we are leaving behind will rise up to these challenges and ensure that nothing is left to chance.  The challenges are definitely surmountable,” General Adekanye said.
