Yola—A ghastly auto crash  involving two vehicles, a commercial Toyota Starlet and Peugeot 406 saloon car, has claimed the lives of eight persons, even as many sustained varying degrees of injuries along the ever busy Yola/Mubi highway in Adamawa State.

Eyewitness account said the two vehicles had a head-on collision, resulting in the death of five of six occupants of the Toyota Starlet, and three in the other vehicle.

An eyewitness, Mallam Sani Dandija, said that most of the victims could not be easily rushed to Yola for medical attention due to a heavy rainfall, adding that the situation was only saved when the convoy of Governor Muhammadu Bindow arrived the scene.

The governor was said to have ordered the ambulance in his convoy to convey the injured victims to the hospital.

Confirming the incident, Head of Operations, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Adamawa State command, Muhammad Kabo, noted that five persons died at the accident scene, with possibilities of more deaths due to the severity of the injuries sustained by the victims.

Kabo, however, appealed to motorists to observe the highway rules and regulations, with a view to reducing road accidents in the state and the country at large.
