A LAGOS based public affairs analyst, Dayo Ogunjebe has cautioned the All Progressives Congress, APC, against sanctioning the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives , Alhaji Yakubu Dogara for contesting the National Assembly leadership polls, saying such move would be counter-productive for the party.

He also said that the emergence of Saraki and Dogara, should serve as a caution to the APC against underrating the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Briefing newsmen yesterday in Lagos, Ogunjebe said the outcome reflects the fact that the country is fast maturing in its democratic journey.

He further stated that the NASS has asserted its independence as an autonomous arm of government devoid of external influences, saying the development portends good omen for the country in its democratic journey.

His words: “The election of the leadership of the two chambers of our National Assembly is a gladdening feat that must be applauded by all and sundry who mean well for the country. The outcome shows that we have indeed matured in our democratic experiment.

“I understand the position of the APC on this issue but the reality on ground is such that they should live with the consequences of the action of its members. In any case, they are still members of the APC, so rather than wield the big stick, they should bring them closer and indeed apologize to the Senate President, Speaker, the National Assembly and all Nigerians for their outbursts, which were uncalled for.”
