Strike

Jos – Civil servants in Plateau State have suspended their over one month old strike action. The strike action commenced on the 5th of last month as the result of the non-payment of their seven month salary arrears by the immediate past government of Jonah Jang, but the workers yesterday suspended the action in response to appeals by Governor Simon Lalong who has promised to pay two months of the salary arrears of workers within this week.
The leadership of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) who called the workers out on the strike and has been occupying the State House of Assembly to prevent the Members of the immediate past 7th Assembly from sitting, confirmed that the strike had indeed been suspended.
The state Chairman of the NLC, Jibrin Bancir said “the NLC is taking Lalong by his word in the hope that he would pay part of the salary arrears as promptly as he had promised.” The workers are to resume duty immediately.
