ABEOKUTA—The Head of Service in Ogun State, Modupe Adekunle has appealed to workers in the state to show understanding with the state government over its inability to pay seven months deductions.
Adekunle said the state government will make necessary adjustments in the state civil service to reflect the current economic realities in the country.
The Head of Service stated this, yesterday, while answering questions from journalists on this year’s Civil Service Day celebration, held in Abeokuta.
Adekunle, who did not give details of the nature of adjustments the government would make, said the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, would work for improved welfare of workers in the state.
She also said that it will pay the seven months deductions it owed the civil servant in the state, saying the governor has commenced plans to pay the backlog of salary deductions.
Adekunle, who said a lot of activities such as football matches, and indoor games had been lined up to mark the Civil Service Day, added that the day was being celebrated to acknowledge and appreciate the valuable contributions which the civil service had made towards the development of the emerging economies in Africa.
She urged the civil servants to continue to demonstrate highest level of professionalism, dedication, commitment and diligence, for which the state civil service was renowned.
“About seven months deductions are being owed but I want to tell you that no net salary is being owed as at today.
“The CT & CS, bank loans and others are being owed but I want to assure you that the government is aware of this and we are going to pay everything in full.
“The situation was between either paying the net salary which is about 2/3 of the whole package of the month or paying 1/3 and for anyone, it is better to pay the huge amount and clear the 1/3 that is outstanding later.
“I must assure you that the future is very bright, the governor has set up a machinery towards settling all the outstanding debt.
“For every administration that comes up, one must look at what is on ground, one will make adjustments where necessary.
“The second term of the governor is still in its early days and I know anything to improve the service delivery, welfare of the workers would be the priority of his excellency.
