PORT HARCOURT—Two explosions have rocked a facility belonging to Agip oil company in Ebocha community, Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Vanguard gathered that the first explosion occurred at 10p.m., on Sunday. While frantic efforts were being made to put out the fire, another blast occured yesterday morning.
At press time, the inferno was still on as fire fighters battled to extinguish it.
Community sources said some residents had relocated to neighbouring areas for fear that the fire might get out of control.
Chairman of Ndoni council, Mr Augustine Ahiamadu, who spoke to our reporter, blamed the explosions on obsolete equipment being used by the oil company, thus dismissing fears of possible sabotage.
He said he had not been formally briefed on the cause of the fire but he suspected it could be traced to mechanical fault arising from obsolete facilities.
It was gathered that no life was lost in the incident.
